The Maryland indoor track state championship meet sponsored by the MPSSAA began for boys in 1972 and girls in 1977. Prior to that, the MPSSAA sponsored a late winter indoor track invitational meet that included Maryland and Washington D.C. schools, but it was not considered a state championship meet.
