Division I

Northwest boys and girls will try to stay undefeated against Walter Johnson. The WJ girls may train through this meet with not much on the line, but the WJ boys should be going all out in an attempt to stay undefeated against a team that was recently topped by two other MCPS teams at the Magruder Invitational. WJ will be more fresh than NW after not racing last weekend, but still have depth issues to address. On paper, this one still goes to Northwest boys.

QO vs. B-CC will be the battle of the rebuilding state champions. After losing most of their varsity athletes from last year, both teams are winless in divisional matchups and looking to stay out of the basement with their young squads.

B-CC girls had an impressive showing at the Magruder Invitational with a respectable top four. They placed ahead of QO in the team standings, but if QO's top two runners return healthy, their #3 suddenly becomes #5, and it won't look promising for the improving B-CC squad.

Division II

Yes, I picked Sherwood to lose with or without Solomon last week, and I turned out to be quite wrong. It's time to flip flop like a politician and say that Sherwood boys AND girls will win with or without Solomon this week against Magruder and Landon (all boys).

Damascus girls should continue to roll against RM this week, eyeing that matchup with Wootton down the road. Wootton girls should have no problem with Gaithersburg this week.

Division III

The Einstein girls didn't look half bad at the Magruder Invitational and I sense the wind is shifting directions in Division III. Einstein can notch a rare divisional win against Blair this week if they run with confidence.

Way out in the far neck of the county, Clarksburg boys and girls will try to stay undefeated against Poolesville. The boys matchup looks quite close when comparing performances so far this year. Without much confidence, I picked Clarksburg to win, but I do believe that both teams will have a tough time against Blair later in the season. The Clarksburg girls should be able to improve to 2-0 against Poolesville relatively easily.

Division IV

Wow, if I was tracking my win-loss percentage with these picks, Division IV would have hurt me badly last week. Truth is, I barely knew a thing about any of these teams, so I've decided to make it up to them by checking in on the Rockville quad meet on Tuesday. They aren't the most loaded teams in the county, and they know that, but they put out the best effort that they can. Rockville came out on top last week with a surprisingly large boys and girls team and I suspect they should remain undefeated against Blake, SV, and WM this week. Individually, Rockville's Amy Ferro should run away from the field, while Blake's Stephen Klingner and Watkins Mill's David Gaynor may duke it out for the win.
