Runovation Recap

The 5k race organized by members of Montgomery Blair High School's senior class on Sunday, August 31, surpassed expectations, raising over $10,000 dollars for rebuilding efforts in New Orleans. Approximately 300 runners, coming from as far away as Houston, Texas, ran in the race. Because of road closure limitations on race day , the race approximated 4.5k instead of the intended 5k. Regardless, runners still enjoyed the course through Sligo Creek Parkway and the neighborhood surrounding Silver Spring International Middle School. The money raised will be sent to Hands on New Orleans, an organization dedicated to rebuilding homes and schools in areas still suffering from damage dealt by Hurricane Katrina.

Thirty-one-year-old Luis Navarro of Ellicott City won the men's race in 15:57, with Blair's very own Rutvij Pandya right behind. The women's race was won by 40-year-old Karen Young of Boyds in 19:54, with a second-place finish by 32-year-old Elizabeth Wenk of Silver Spring.
